The pro form of recombinant human INHBA consisting of 417 amino acids has a calculated molecular mass of 46.5 KDa. As a result of glycosylation, the apparent molecular mass of rhINHBA is approximately 18 & 43 KDa corresponding to the mature inhibin beta A chain and the pro domain respectively in SDS-PAGE under reducing conditions.

Inhibins/activins are involved in regulating a number of biological processes, such as hypothalamic, pituitary and gonadal hormone secretion, germ cell development and maturation, erythroid differentiation, nerve cell survival, embryonic axial development or bone growth, depending on their subunit composition. Inhibins/activins are homo or hetero dimers linked by one or more disulfide bonds. Inhibin A/B is a dimer of alpha and beta-A or beta-B, while Activin A/B/AB is a homodimer of beta-A and beta-B, or a heterodimer of beta-A and beta-B, respectively.Inhibin beta A chain (INHBA), also known as activin beta A chain, together with INHBB, are closely related TGF-beta superfamily members. INHBA overexpression may promote cell proliferation and showed a significantly higher expression in tumors than in normal tissues. INHBA may be suggested as a promising prognostic marker of head and neck squamous cell carcinoma.
